Tested Recipe Adapted from Plilip Yoong’s Pasar Malam Delights

Roti Babi


1 loaf white bread, sliced

3 eggs, mixed with a little salt, pepper and lightly beaten

Some breadcrumbs


2 tbsp oil

1 onion, peeled and chopped

1 tsp chopped garlic

2 black mushrooms, soaked and chopped

200g minced meat

3 water chestnuts, peeled and chopped

2 tbsp chopped spring onion


½ tsp salt

1 tsp light soy sauce

½ tbsp sugar

1 tbsp oyster sauce

Dash of sesame oil

Dash of pepper

½ tsp five spice powder

1 tsp corn flour, mixed with 1 tbsp water, for thickening

Preparation Instructions:

  1. Filling: Heat up oil, saute chopped onion and garlic until fragrant. Add in black mushroom, minced meat and stir-fry until aromatic. Add in water chestnuts, seasoning and stir well. Add in chopped spring onion and thicken with corn flour water. Dish up and leave to cool.
  2. Spread some filling onto a piece of white bread and sandwich with another piece of bread. Dip into beaten egg and coat with breadcrumbs.
  3. Deep-fry in hot oil until golden brown. Dish and drain. Cut into pieces and serve hot.
