Tested Recipe with Slight Adjustment Adapted from Eric Low
4 pcs whole chicken wings, cut into half, wing tip removed
¼ tsp five spice powder
¼ tsp salt
Adequate cooking oil for pan-frying
2 nos red onion, peeled and cut into wedges
1 no carrot, peeled and cut into wedges
1 no large potato, peeled and cut into wedges
2 pcs bay leaf
2 tbsp vegetarian oyster sauce
2 tbsp light soy sauce
1/3 tsp ground white pepper
½ tsp sugar
1 tsp corn starch mixed with 2 tsp water
- Season chicken wings with five spice powder and salt. Heat up adequate cooking oil for pan-frying. Pan-fry the chicken wings till slightly browned. Remove and set aside.
- In a braising pot, heat up 3 tbsp of cooking oil, saute red onion, carrot and potatoes briefly. Return chicken wings to braising pot, add in bay leaves, vegetarian oyster sauce, light soy sauce, ground white peper, sugar and water.
- Bring sauce to a boil and simmer chicken wings for 30 minutes. Thicken gravy slightly with corn starch solution.
- Dish out and serve.
