Sweet & Sour Meatballs with Lotus Root



200g ground pork

50g grated lotus root

150g chopped lotus root

1 tbsp chopped white part of spring onion

10g young ginger (chopped)

Adequate cooking oil for deep-frying


¼ tsp salt

¼ tsp ground white pepper

1 tsp kikkoman soy sauce

1 tsp sesame oil

1 tbsp sake

1 tbsp corn flour

Sweet & Sour Sauce:

2 tbsp rice vinegar

1 tbsp sake

1 tbsp sugar

1 tbsp kikkoman soy sauce


Some lettuce leaves

Preparation Instructions:

  1. In a mixing bowl, add in ground pork and marinade, mix until well combined.
  2. Add in chopped white part of spring onion, young ginger, grated lotus root and chopped lotus root. Mix till well combined.
  3. Divide the mixture into 16 equal portions and shape into balls.
  4. Heat up adequate cooking oil for deep-frying. Deep-fry the meatballs in batches until golden brown. Remove and drained.
  5. Heat up a non-stick skillet, add in sweet & sour sauce ingredients and bring to a boil.
  6. Add in deep-fried meatballs with lotus root, toss to coat until the meatballs absorb most of the sauce.
  7. Dish out to a serving bowl, garnish with some lettuce leaves. Serve.
